In one of the most thrilling days experienced in the sporting history of St
Mary's, both our Under 16 and Under 19 Basketball teams covered themselves
in glory in the SSA Division One Finals in the National Basketball Arena,
Tallaght.

The Under 16 team very nearly took home the trophy after a pulsating match
that was even right until the very end of the game.  They eventually losing
out on the narrowest of score lines, 20 points to 18 to Skerries Community
College.         .

It was a brilliant achievement considering that the team had the smallest
panel of players in the whole competition. Officials and teachers from other
schools commented on the fitness, skillfulness and professionalism of the
girls involved – Leanne Bickerdike, Zoe Johnston, Shannon Lowndes, Nicole
Moriarty, Michaela Moriarty, Emma Maguire, Andrea Walsh, Stacey Berry and
Chloe Farren.

The Under 19 team won their final in some style, taking home the trophy
after a 31 -25 victory against Presentation College, Terenure. It was a
magnificent team performance in a league that is noted nationally for its
high skill levels. To add to the team's delight, Captain Laura Chambers also
received the Most Valuable Player accolade at the medal ceremony. Along with
Laura, the team was composed of Danielle Byrne, Shauna McCourt, Aisling
Penrose, Ciara Richardson, Katie Brady, Hayley Carton, Stephanie Doolin,
Shannon Berry, Paige Lenihan, Lauren Fitzpatrick and Robyn O'Sullivan.  The
girls had to dig deep to come from behind to defeat a very determined
Presentation side.

Team coaches and officials, Debbie O'Connell, Mr. Burke and Mr. Fennell were
delighted with the girls' performance. They also remarked about how proud
they were with the way in which the teams and supporters represented the
school. Principal, Ms. Siobhan O' Connell, congratulated both teams and
their supporters on what was a terrific day out.

Altogether, A Great Day for St. Mary's Secondary School, Baldoyle.  Well
done everyone.
