Committee on Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Has just published its report that asks for the removal of comreg as mobile mast emission monitors with the task going to the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland. Also the group want the Minister to appoint a Radiation Tzar like William Stewart in the UK. I have not seen the report which is on CD. Its being posted to me by the Dail office of my local TD and committee member, actually two of my three TDs are on the committee. With the wonderful postal system I will see it some time next week. I want that PDF Now! PDF
[update report is released PDF here]
It will be interesting to see Noel Dempsey try and avoid this committees recommendations and the lobbying of interest groups likewise.
Point 10 : That planning guidelines and planning exemptions be examined with a view to ensuring that no ‘electromagnetic emissions’ or ‘radio frequency emissions’ emitting equipment be permitted to be sited near health centres, schools or other sensitive sites such as playgrounds or pitches etc.
BTW the 1998 report was in the main ignored. In fact Dempsey was in Dept. Env. and introduced the planning exemptions for mobile phone companies.
