HOTPRESS EMAIL JULY 2005 from Frank Cronin

Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister has been hospitalised in Germany suffering from
dehydration and exhaustion.

The British rocker known to produce no less than 126 decibels during live
shows, has been ordered by doctors to take it easy, forcing Motorhead to cancel
a handful of European gigs.

"When you're dealing with a warhorse like Lemmy, it's not easy to discuss
typical normal healthy things, such as a balanced diet and proper fluid
intake," Motorhead manager Todd Singerman explained in a statement.

The band's drummer, Mikkey Dee, said: "I'm having to drink eight bottles of
Gatorade as well as water just to get through these shows. I'm close to passing
out, and there's Lemmy sweating his ass off, drinking his Jack and Coke."

The statement denies there is anything more serious to Lemmy's physical health
than exhaustion.

"The simple truth is Lemmy's the classic rock-and-roll juggernaut who has
proudly defied human logic for decades," the band's manager stated. "But even
juggernauts need a bit of maintenance once in a while."

Weezer confirm Dublin date

Weezer have confirmed that they will play at Dublin’s Point Theatre on August
24. It will be only the second gig that the Los Angeles punk-poppers have
played in Ireland. They made their debut at Vicar Street in June, as part of
the Bud Rising Music Festival. The concert sold out in just one minute. Weezer
exploded onto the scene over a decade ago, with the release of their double-
platinum self-titled debut album in 1994. They have released four albums since
then, including this year’s Make Believe. The concert will be a great
opportunity to hear classics like ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Only In Dreams’ in the
live setting. Tickets for the gig go on sale at 9am on Friday July 8, priced
€38.50 (including booking fee).

Dublin City Council and the Roisin Dubh Trust, the early evening ceremony will
be followed by a ticket-only celebration, which is expected to attract Philo

With the imminent release of a back catelogue CD, veteran punk band Paranoid
Visions are set to hit the road. Punk’s not dead and neither are veteran Dublin
spiky-hairs Paranoid Visions who are hitting the comeback trail in support of a
single CD containing all of their back catalogue. It’ll be the first time that
the original line-up of Deko, P.A., Caff and Dan D. Lion have been in the same
room as each other since 1990. "There was always a lot of tension in the band
at the time and it was entirely justified as we were always a nasty bunch of
slagging f*ckers to each other", says Deko, ever the silver-tongued devil.
Provisionally-titled Outside In: Vinyl 1986 – 1989, the everything including
the kitchen sink collection includes the Running Amok EP, City Of Screams and I
Wallow mini-albums and their only full-length release, Schizophrenia.

The webiste www.paranoidvisions.com is underway where the lyrics etc will be
available for download as loads of press and images have gone into the album
booklet instead. Talk next is of long lost live in limerick album, unreleased
back catalogue stuff and a new album.......

*** 26-28.08.05 HARD WORKING CLASS HEROS 2005, throughout Temple Bar.

HWCH certainly has its fingers on the pulse of the independent Irish scene and
has enjoyed year-on-year success since 2003. Over 100 emerging and some more
established artists will play in Dublin over the three days.

Not content with bringing you the cream of new Irish and overseas talent, this
year’s Hard Working Class Heroes festival has rounded-up some prominent
industry names to participate in its workshops and panel discussions. These
include manager of the moment Larry Little who’s guided The Killers (pictured)
to top 20 success on both sides of the Atlantic. Joining him are colleagues
Alan Cullivan (The Thrills & Humanzi) and David Cronen (Iain Archer).

On the A&R front, there’ll be input from Steve Proud (Atlantic UK), Phil
Catchpole (Chrysalis UK), Gerard Philips (Independiente UK), Paul Barton
(Perfect Songs UK), Barry O’Donoghue (Sony-BMG Ireland) and Ken Allen (Atlantic
and Faction Records Ireland). Throw in well-known figures from the worlds of

*** 31.08.05 SLEATER-KINNEY + Support, Spring & Airbrake, Belfast, 9pm, £13.50

Sleater-Kinney are a three-piece rock and roll all-girl combo from the wilds of
Portland, Oregon. The band are made up of the dual and duelling guitars and
voices of Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein and the insistent and inventive
drumming of Janet Weiss. Their stunning new album The Woods that is released on
3 June is the bands seventh full-length release. The Woods is quite different
from Sleater-Kinney's usually potent feminist punk rock style but different is
good. The hard edge is still evident while they also include solos, ballads and
add new depth and heaviness to their songs.

*** 31.08.05 MARILYN MANSON / IRON MAIDEN + support, RDS Arena, 4pm, 65 - 70euro

Rumours abound that MEGADETH and Papa Roach are being added to the line-up.

In tow with Iron Maiden will be controversial goths Marilyn Manson, who will
inevitably infuriate traditional religious groups with their satanic
tendencies: stage antics in the past include smoking human bones and sex acts.
The concert will be the first time they play a full-length set in Ireland after
a number of false starts in previous years, though the mainman did appear on
stage with Bono and Iggy Pop at Hot Press HQ following the 1999 MTV Awards in
Dublin. In September of last year, Manson released the album Lest We Forget, a
collection of songs covering the highlights of his career.

British pop-punkers The Paddingtons have announced that they will be playing a
Whelan's gig later this year. The Hull rockers have already been lauded in the
NME, although they have yet to release their debut album. They are the latest
addition to Alan McGee’s Poptones label, and are set to release their next
single, ‘50’, on July 11. Their sound has been described as "what Busted would
sound like if forced to intake dangerous amount of amphetamine".

Guitar fiends can see the esteemed Steve Vai play live at Vicar St. this
October. The man credited by David Coverdale as “weaving sonic tapestries from
hell”, Steve Vai, does his guitar hero thing in Vicar St. on October 26.
Introduced to the devil’s music by Led Zeppelin, Vai has also supplied licks
for the likes of Frank Zappa and David Lee Roth who, you may recall, had a chat
with his guitar on ‘Yankee Rose’.

*** 19.11.05 GOLDBLADE + Guests, Voodoo

High octane rock n roll, Gold Blade are a shamelessly fundamentalist collision
of The Ramones, James Brown and The Stooges, typified by the anthemic Strictly
Hardcore and AC/DC (which concludes with a cheeky Angus riff). Throughout their
set, Jon Robb comes across like a rock 'n' roll Billy Graham, bug-eyed and
wired on adrenalin, slapping high-fives with the front row and bellowing
exhortations to join him in his devotion. His band of tatooed rockabilly rebels
are backed by the tribal thump of not one but two drummers. Gold Blade may have
their rivals in the testifying punk-rock-soul genre (notably The Make-Up and
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), but you won't see a more inspiring, thrilling,
enlivening show from any of them.

Sultans of Ping FC first gigs in 9 years!

Lynchpins of the ‘90s ‘Corkchester’ scene, the band were doing the dayglo punk
thing while the likes of Good Charlotte and Sum 41 were still teething. Since
going their separate ways in 1996, lead singer Niall O’Flaherty has written a
number of hits for Japanese girl band Mika Bomb and started a history degree at
Cambridge University; guitarist Alan McFeely has played in an outfit called
Sister; and drummer Morty has worked with REM, promoted club nights in
Stockholm and authored the Roy Keane-approved Doucha Boy.
