Heathrow airport 12/02/2003
Soldiers keep watch at Heathrow airport as a British Airways Concorde departs for New York. The home secretary, David Blunkett, said that government ministers had considered closing the airport following the recent terror alert, but that doing so would have been a victory for terrorists and catastrophic for Britain’s trade and economy. more
Police search cars at Colnbrook as London retained a heightened level of security alert. Scotland Yard refused to reveal the substance of the threat but terror experts said it pointed to a possible missile attack on a plane similar to the one carried out by al-Qaida terrorists in Kenya last year. more
did they ever find those mobile rocket launchers?, how much air time was given over to that story?. did tanks at the front door of the UKs busiest airport influence public opinion in the run up to war on Iraq (‘terror’)?. The British govt. feel it is now acceptable to trust the UK residents to know what security level the country is operating under. When will it reveal the ‘intelligence’ that brought the world airlines to a halt. Many of the disruptions of terrorism is not related to actual protection from harm, but defending a hoax phone call etc. While there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, did Hans Blix or anyone ever find the WMD in Colnbrook London?
If not the question must be asked what qualified the police army govt. spin to roll tanks at a civilian airport in peace time? distract / over react / fear of attack, in the words of bowie “this is not america” I am not watching Fox News and I dislike my ‘intelligence’ being insulted.
