still working… its going to be a long day, E&Y awards tonight in City West and a podcast in D2 at 8am on Friday with a Wedding on Saturday when do I sleep? ok enough of me complaining about workload. go find this in your library or buy it if you dont have it, or 4 a laugh ask your local radio station to play it :-). Millie Small – my boy lollipop.

Mille shares my birthday 06/10 but she was born in ’42 ’46 & ’48 it all depends on the source.

My Boy Lollipop” was doubly significant in British music. It was the first major hit for Island Records (although it was actually released via Fontana Records because Blackwell did not want to overextend Island’s then-meager resources), and Small was the first artist to have a hit that was recorded in the so-called “bluebeat” style. This was a “music genre” that had recently emerged from Jamaica, and which, as with ska, was the direct ancestor of reggae.

I have a vivid memory of this being on constant sale in the ’80’s on the island label in our record shops..

The Spice Girls covered it… Legend has it that Rod Stewart played harmonica on it

My boy Lollipop
You make my heart go giddy-up
You are as sweet as candy
You’re my sugar dandy
