Sandi Thom gets the numebr one

as I predicted here on May 15th Sandi Thom got her number one in the UK singles chart with “i wish i was a prawn cracker” – So that clears the way for the release of the Album “Smile.. it confuses people” today 05/06/06 which I just downloaded inside 4 minutes. for €9
I may have predicted #1 but I did expect the number on the 21 of April 1 day before its official release. OK so pre sales did not do it but iTunes evidence showed it could, perhaps when tracks that go on sale in iTunes a week early are held over like pre orders until official release, then glutting the sales that week? i only guess, the record business can only be as corrupt as betrayed in the film Breaking Glass. So #1 for Sandi Thom and G_narls B_arkley is finally toppled. Not since 4 Non Blonde’s “Whats Up” hit the top in 1994 have I been this interested in the coveted UK#1. G_narls B_arkley was the first UK#1 to be download only at least to begin with and Sandi Thom is another myspace blogosphere web2.0 rags to riches story that has gone to the top, with a little help from her friends in PR and the tech world. Is it possible that this is the death knell of manufacturing in the Louis Walsh sense of the word. Perhaps the race to the top is now the race to the bottom for manufacturing boy bands as they offshore to Asia, or off the planet altogether. “We’ve got a little world of our own” sang Westlife, great, so feck off there and leave us alone.

[notes: Sandi Thom management; i want that £10 now, or I will exchange for a podcast interview! ]
