[From the Examiner ] Last night, Justice Minister Michael McDowell said that this section, which seems to discriminate against boys, had been inserted after consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The view was that if a pregnant 15 to 16-year-old girl were not given this out, it would follow as a matter of law and fact that she would be seen as a victim of rape, or had committed an offence.

In England, Scotland & Wales age of consent is 16, in Ireland North & South its 17. the rushed legislation does not deal with the age of consent issue necessary as part of a removal of automatic nature of the 1935 act found unconstitutional.
