{"id":2385,"date":"2012-01-04T15:23:45","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T15:23:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.briangreene.com\/bhg\/2012\/household-tax-site-in-breach-of-privacy-law\/"},"modified":"2012-01-04T15:23:45","modified_gmt":"2012-01-04T15:23:45","slug":"household-tax-site-in-breach-of-privacy-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briangreene.com\/bhg\/2012\/household-tax-site-in-breach-of-privacy-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Household Tax site in breach of privacy law"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='posterous_autopost'>Press Statement: Paul Murphy MEP (Socialist Party \/ United Left <br \/>Alliance) 4 January 2011 <\/p>\n<p \/>Household Tax site in breach of privacy law <\/p>\n<p \/> Paul Murphy MEP lodges complaint with Data Commissioner <\/p>\n<p \/>Socialist Party \/ United Left Alliance MEP for Dublin and <br \/>anti-household tax campaigner, Paul Murphy, has lodged a complaint <br \/>with the Data Commissioner about the Household Tax site, <br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.householdcharge.ie\">www.householdcharge.ie<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p \/>\u201cThe government is starting to roll out a massive propaganda campaign <br \/>to get people to register for and pay the unjust household tax. <br \/>However, the site they are encouraging people to register on is in <br \/>breach of the 2011 regulations on \u201cPrivacy and Electronic <br \/>Communications?? which implements EU directives on privacy. <\/p>\n<p \/>\u201cThe website&#8217;s privacy statement declares that the site uses &#8216;session <br \/>cookies&#8217; which are erased after use, whereas in fact it uses so-called <br \/>&#8216;persistent cookies&#8217; that remain on people&#8217;s computers after they <br \/>visit the website. This is a breach of the 2011 regulations and I have <br \/>made a complaint to the Data Commissioner about it. <\/p>\n<p \/>\u201cPeople should not register or pay on this site. Instead, they should <br \/>join the Campaign against Household and Water Taxes and work to <br \/>establish such mass non-registration and non-payment that this tax <br \/>will be uncollectable.?? <\/p>\n<p \/>ENDS <\/p>\n<p \/>[PMPress] <\/p>\n<p \/>Note for editor: <\/p>\n<p \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.householdcharge.ie\">www.householdcharge.ie<\/a> site is in breach of the 2011 regulations <br \/>(EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES (ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS AND <br \/>SERVICES) (PRIVACY AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS) REGULATIONS 2011), <br \/>available here <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dataprotection.ie\/documents\/legal\/SI336of2011.pdf\">http:\/\/www.dataprotection.ie\/documents\/legal\/SI336of2011.pdf<\/a> <br \/>.
